I landed here after many researches as I wanted to build a Rolex Explorer II 1655 replica by myself. I read a lot of stuff about this model that has been posted here on RWI and .
If you are looking for an Explorer II style bezel, e.g. brushed steel with black numbers, I'd highly recommend this one from Tokeilab. It's a 12hr bezel, which makes more sense to use in a mod .

Has anyone seen this modification of an Explorer II polar dial, with the black GMT bezel? Generally, I think it’s a huge mistake to modify a Rolex or do anything that would compromise its value, but I have to say that I love the look of this configuration. Has anyone tried to mod an Explorer 2 by putting lume into numbers of the bezel? If ever there was a watch which warrants a lumed bezel, it would have to be the Explorer 2 - those cavers deserve to see the 12 hour time in the dark!
My watchmaker has told me the retaining crystal ring is the key part you'll need for this mod as it has the click spring which enables the moveable bezel insert. I like this particular mod and wonder how many people would be in line if Rolex ever introduced one. For my second watch build, I went for the Rolex Explorer II with the white dial look. I’m not one to brag or to toot his own horn, but I think I did a pretty good job here, and I’m very happy about the final product. Eagle-eye redditors will probably notice that it’s a 12-hour bezel insert instead of the 24-hour one found on the Explorer. It’s my Rolex Explorer II 16570 with a GMT Master 16710 bezel installed. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea of course and I’m sure some will balk at modifying a -k watch, but I think it’s cool. The E2 16570 is the perfect watch in my opinion but the thing I never liked was the static 24 hour bezel.
There was also no bezel insert on the Explorer II. This was a design shift for Rolex sport (Professional) models such as the GMT Master and Submariner. The steel 24-hour bezel remains unique to the Explorer II at present. The Explorer II 1655 was part Explorer 1016 and part GMT Master 1675 combined to look similar to a sighting compass.
