A display caseback should not be an afterthought on a watch. A brand should not be slapping see-through glass on the back and just assuming it's for the best. And there's a reason for this: not all movements are created equal, . Breitling Navitimer 1 B01 Chronograph 46. A large 46mm dial makes the Breitling Navitimer 1 B01 Chronograph 46 stand out. The transparent sapphire crystal displays the high-performance self-winding mechanical movement inside.Cosmonaute (Display Back) Production Years: 1995. Gender: Mens. Case Materials Available: Steel. Breitling has been doing sapphire case backs on and off for a while now for certain models -- mostly limited editions, boutique editions, and recently the Navitimer B01 46mm. In the new Kern era, however, we should see more of them because all watches outfitted with manufacture movements are supposed to be transitioned to the see-through variety. The 12023 special editions of the Cosmonaute are among the rare Breitling models to have see-through casebacks. Those were apparently produced in less than 3,000 pieces, from 1993 (?) to 1997 (?). There are several known versions for this chronograph: A12023, fully in stainless steel, with black dial or blue dial (both with silver subdials); The sapphire crystal display back definitely make the watch sit flatter on the wrist and the visible movement is a joy to look at. I would never need to look at the back of a watch to do temperature conversions so I'm happy with the change.
When a watch has a display back, the usually solid case backing has been replaced with a clear crystal meant to allow viewing of the movement inside the watch. Often, the movements will be adorned with blued screws, Geneva striping, and other attractive visual additions.
Just wondering if transparent casbacks are available for vintage Breitlings (in my case for the Datora 785, what about the Navitimer 806?) so that I can admire the working of the movement through the caseback.
It's a very useful way of spotting replicas but very few owners think about posting case back pics. Would be great to see them here with details of model number, year etc if known. I'll post mine once I've got round to taking them.
Do you guys think it would be possible to buy the displayback from Breitling (from a other model) and place it on my watch? Also, i'm looking for a picture of a SOH46 (no chrono) with the back cover taken of. A display caseback should not be an afterthought on a watch.
