Has anyone seen this modification of an Explorer II polar dial, with the black GMT bezel? Generally, I think it’s a huge mistake to modify a Rolex or do anything that would compromise its value, but I have to say that I love the look of this configuration. Has anyone tried to mod an Explorer 2 by putting lume into numbers of the bezel? If ever there was a watch which warrants a lumed bezel, it would have to be the Explorer 2 - those cavers deserve to see the 12 hour time in the dark!
My watchmaker has told me the retaining crystal ring is the key part you'll need for this mod as it has the click spring which enables the moveable bezel insert. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea of course and I’m sure some will balk at modifying a -k watch, but I think it’s cool. The E2 16570 is the perfect watch in my opinion but the thing I never liked was the static 24 hour bezel.
